Friday, August 2, 2019

The 2020 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama schedule was unveiled as part of the annual IMSA “State of the Series” presentation Friday night at Road America, and again will feature eight event weekends and a total of 16, 45-minute races.

“The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama has long been recognized as one of Porsche’s most competitive GT3 Cup series anywhere in the world,” said IMSA President David Pettit. “Whether the series races as part of WeatherTech Championship event weekends, or races alongside other series such as IndyCar, the quality of racing and level of professionalism is outstanding. The series has become quite popular with IMSA fans everywhere.”

One of 20 Porsche one-make series in the world, the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA includes two classes of race cars – the Platinum Cup class for 911 GT3 Cup machines built since 2017, and Gold Cup for cars built between 2014 and 2016. The Platinum Cup class also has a Masters category for drivers 45 years of age and over.

The season will open with a new event for the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA, alongside the IndyCar series at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on the weekend of March 13-15. The series then returns to Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama for the fourth consecutive year on the weekend of April 3-5 again as part of the IndyCar event weekend.

From there, it’s onto Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course alongside the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship on the weekend of May 1-3, followed by the annual trip to Watkins Glen International on June 25-27. The Watkins Glen weekend will be the one and only time in 2020 that the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA and Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama will run a combined event.

VIRginia International Raceway is next up on the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA schedule on the weekend of Aug. 21-23 before the series heads west to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca as part of the WeatherTech Championship event weekend on Sept. 11-13. The 2019 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA race will run this September as part of the IndyCar weekend.

Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta once again closes out the season with a pair of races as part of the Motul Petit Le Mans weekend on Oct. 7-9.

Television coverage for every event weekend will air on NBCSN, with live streaming available on IMSA.tv and the IMSA app.
