JZ Motorsport To Run Champion Porsche Tribute Car – Road Atlanta IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge

Monday, October 8, 2018

Delray Beach, Florida based team JZ Motorsport, has announced they’ll be running a Champion Porsche tribute GT3 Cup entry in the final rounds of the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge at Road At-lanta in memory of founder Dave Maraj.

“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts with Dave Maraj suddenly passing.  Mr. Maraj and the entire Cham-pion Racing team were a crowd favorite within the Motorsports community not only for their on-track success but ultimately, the way they changed Sports Car Racing in North America.  Having been friends of the family growing up and going to school with Dave’s son Mitra, you always looked up to how Mr. Maraj ran a success-ful business and racing team.  The professionalism and success Dave built through his Porsche dealership and racing team is very humbling” – Team Representative and Driver Jonathon Ziegelman mentions.

“We wanted to pay our respects by running the car in the iconic STP / H.H. Brown Footwear 1996 Porsche GT2 livery that was the catalyst to Champion Racing’s successful racing history, having won the Sebring 12 Hours GTS-1 class with Hans-Joachim Stuck and Bill Adam at the wheel, along with a second place finish at Daytona 24 Hour with Thierry Boutsen added as a third driver the following year.  Growing up as a South Florida kid, watching the early era of Sports Car racing, the Champion Racing Porsche and Audi’s were always my favorite cars to watch.  Looking back at the nostalgic Champion livery designer, Dave Schnorr came up with, those colors and cars really became a timeless design.”

Jonathon Ziegelman also mentions, “what makes this collaboration so special and meaningful is that, the team is made up of former Champion Racing personnel who worked for Mr. Maraj during the successful championships in World Challenge and part of the Le Mans winning Audi R8 program.”

A private memorial party for those who were associated with Champion Racing that will be attending the IMSA Road Atlanta event will be scheduled during the race week.  Date and time TBD.  For more information contact: Jonathon(AT)jzmotorsport.com.
